Before the girls were born, Bruno and I were discussing Christmas and our plan of attack for the year.
"We aren't going to get a big tree this year."
"What?!?! It's going to be their FIRST Christmas. We HAVE to have a tree!"
"Molly, look at the sunroom. It's full of stuff for the girls. It'll be too much to move everything and plus we don't have anywhere to put it once we do."
"But we HAVE to have a tree!"
Cue 3 weeks later, the girls are 2 weeks old...
"Bruno, I don't think we can get a big tree this year. There's too much stuff to move in the sunroom."
"I know Molly."
"But we still need to have a tree. Let's move the bassinet and get a little one to put in the corner."
"Ok, we can do that."
"But NEXT year, we're getting a big tree."
So the Saturday before Christmas, the family headed out to Home Depot to pick out our little tree. Right before we left, I knew that Milena would need to eat soon. Like in about 10 minutes. Now most moms probably would have decided to wait to feed their child, then trek out. But we were on a tight schedule here. Plus, if we waited, perhaps her sister would then be hungry and we could feed them together. So we bundled them up and raced out. Ok, maybe not raced out because really, you don't race out with 2 little babies. Either way, as soon as we started loading them in their carseats, Milena started to cry.
"I'm hungry mommy!"
"Sorry lady, you'll have to wait."
Once we loaded them in the car and got on the road, the cries subsided. You can pretty much always count on the car ride to calm a fussy baby. We arrived at Home Depot and started the unloading. As I mentioned in a previous post, a new friend passed along their double Snap-n-Go stroller. This is a great little invention that we are now using more and more, since we are taking more trips out of the house. So we unpacked the stroller, snapped the girls in and went into the garden area to find our tree.
Of course as soon as we get the girls in the stroller, Milena remembers that she's hungry and starts crying again. Our Christmas Tree trip took place prior to us giving into the pacifier, so we were THAT family with the crying baby. To give her credit, Milena wasn't really crying THAT loud, but we felt bad and in the spotlight nonetheless. Did that stop us from taking our time walking around to find the right tree, and take tons of pictures? Of course not! So you'll see in pretty much all the pictures from trip, poor Milena is a very unhappy little girl (she's in the back seat of the stroller), while Luciana is just passed out.
The whole trip was only about 30 minutes, but I'm sure to Milena, it felt like a lifetime! But it was worth it to get out little tree. It was perfect for their First Christmas.
