32 Weeks
I meant to write this the other day... but you get it tonight instead.
We've got less than 4 weeks to go. Less than a month. By the time next month rolls around, we will be a new family. I bought bagels the other day that expire Dec 11. Our girls will be here by then. Wow! These next few weeks will go very fast, and very slow at the same time.
As far as I'm feeling, I'm getting pretty tired most days. I still work my 8-6 schedule, which in factoring commuting time means I'm out of the house for 12 hours every day. Those 1/2 day Fridays get better and better every week. While I'm at work, it's not bad. I make it through the days pretty well. It's more of the getting up and getting down that are wearing on me. When I first get in my car and drive to work, I'm fine. Once I get there, and out of my car, there's some acheyness associated with moving from a seated position to a standing position. I move little slower from my car to the elevator, but I'm fine once I get upstairs. I go through the same feeling all day, as I sit and stand multiple times. By the time I get home, I am exhausted and want nothing else to do but lay around. So that's what I do. But it's hard. As much as I love laying around and being lazy, it's hard when you know you physically aren't capable of doing what you used to. And there is so much that needs to be done before the girls get here that taken care of things in short spurts of time really doesn't make me feel like I've done anything.
We finally got our decal put up in the nursery, so we are a little closer to having it ready. I have the sheets, but I need another mattress pad before I can put them on. I finally sorted through all the gracious clothes donations and gifts, and our living room is looking a little more manageable. I still need to organize our sunroom so we can actually get into the closet when we need to, and so we're not climbing over everything to open the blinds. I want to set up our printer in there, and the shredder. We have diapers and towels and misc things that have no where to go. I am trying my best not to store any non-baby stuff in the girls room. So when you have to take the things in your guestroom and redistribute everything to the rest of the house... it's tough! My parents graciously took a bunch of our stuff and stored it at their new house. We've been doing our best to purge because a cluttered home is just no good. I can't wait until we have a bigger place and more space for designated things. Not more space to store junk, but an office for all our office type stuff. A basement for all the girls' toys and play things. A pantry that functions instead of just a closet with stuff thrown in there.
But we'll manage. Of course.
So how are the girls? Well they are doing great of course. I had an appointment 2 weeks ago and they were measuring 3lbs 10oz and 3lbs 11oz. My guess is that they will be around 6lbs when they're born. So maybe my mom was right and I won't need those preemie clothes after all! They move around still, though not as much. I think it's more of adjusting for space. They're running out of room in there. The most noticeable "movement" is when I get up from laying on my side, or even on my back. They adjust themselves so much in there that when I get up, they are bulging out and most of the time, it's not comfortable in the least bit. I often rub them and try to coax them back into the position that they belong. The hiccup a lot. Baby A is positioned head down, so I feel her hiccups a lot of times right net to my bladder. Fun. Haha. I also feel her head pushing a lot against the bone that connects my right leg to my torso. Baby B pushes me in the ribs a lot... not sure if it's her legs or head or arms... she changes positions a lot so I'm never really sure where she is.
They respond to Bruno when he talks to them, and even when they hear him play. It's pretty awesome. We are so excited and anxious to meet them. We wonder what they'll look like and how they'll act.
I did run into a family today that had twins and they told me, "It's not as hard as everyone says." I sure hope they're right! We'll just do the best we can and I think we'll get a handle on it soon enough.
People have asked me a lot about maternity leave. Well, I get 8 weeks off from work - unpaid. I'll have a week of vacation time to use. I plan on taking another 2 weeks off unpaid, so a total of 11 weeks. I want to work up to the Thanksgiving holiday so I get paid for the holiday. I signed up for short term disability so I can get some payment while I'm off. We've been saving money since July to cover the month that I won't be getting any money.
Once I go back to work, the girls will be in daycare 3 days a week and Bruno's mom will watch them the other 2 days. We were very fortunate to find a daycare that will take them 3 days a week, and a Grandmother who works part time and is willing to use her days off to watch our girls.
Up until now, our lives really haven't changed. Sure, I can't drink, and I get tired... but we still live our lives the same. In less than 4 weeks, that all changes. Wow.
