The girls celebrated their first Halloween! Bruno and I were able to attend a small parade at the girls' daycare - complete with so many cute little ones all dressed up! Ours were the cutest, of course :) That evening we took a walk around the neighborhood, just to check out the Trick-or-Treat scene. I think the girls were a bit overwhelmed by what was going on, but they enjoyed themselves. Especially when they got their first bit of candy! One house gave them each a Kit-Kat and we didn't think anything of it. After about 15 minutes of continually chewing on the wrapper, Bruno and I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Oh, and there it was - they had ripped through the wrapper with their tiny little teeth and were snacking on chocolate this whole time! Such ninjas.
We met up with Wendy from Let the Light In Photography to capture some 1st year shots. She had taken pictures of them at 3 months and 6 months, so it was no question that we wanted her to take their year one pictures. We had a gorgeous day for some great shots, both inside and out. I was going back and forth about doing a "cake smash" photo, as I had wanted to save their first taste of cake for their first birthday. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity - and it was well worth it!
We also celebrated their first Thanksgiving! We spent the day with Grandma and Grandpa, Avo and Arlene. Through a few naps and playtime, the girls really had a fun day. Their first taste of the Thanksgiving feast was actually homemade pasta. I know, not what you would think would be their first taste... unless you're Italian. Pasta is the first course of so many holiday meals... so it made sense to us. But don't worry, they did have some turkey, green beans and squash. And I think they enjoyed it.
Of course the big first came on November 30. Bruno and I came storming into their room as soon as we heard them shuffling around and threw balloons in their cribs. Milena was stunned, then excited. Luciana was stunned, then cried. And cried. It wasn't until we placed her in the same crib as her sister and she buried her face in her blanket that she finally smiled. Weird, I know. But then they were golden. Bruno and I had taken the day off to be with the girls, but sadly he had to go in last minute. But we made certain to join him for lunch! For breakfast I made the girls some yummy pancakes. I wanted to make them in the shape of the number "1" to commemorate the occasion but they turned out to be big blobs instead. Oh well! I don't think they noticed. So for lunch we made our way to Longhorn Steakhouse. Their choice, of course. After a yummy meal of mac and cheese and chicken tenders, it was time to continue our day of fun.
We spent the early evening exploring Chibis Indoor Playground. It was our first time there and the girls really had a great time. There were so many fun toys to play with and some great obstacles to crawl around on. To end the day we had dinner at Ruby Tuesday. The girls had some turkey burgers for dinner and ended the evening with some yummy Red Velvet cupcakes! They promptly smashed it in their faces and the exhaustion of the day set in... time to high tail it out of the place!
So now we are the parents of one year old babies? toddlers? kids? I dunno! But we are happy to have them!
Luciana Marie
You've been doing a lot of squatting this month. We cannot believe how strong your quads are! I think soccer is definitely in your future with those legs!
You've done really well getting up from a sitting position into a standing position. You are so close to walking... but you just won't move those legs!
This month you have learned to blow kisses and it's so cute! Well, when I say blow kisses it's really bring your hand from your mouth out and make an almost "Muah" sound, so it works for us.
You've been growing teeth like a crazy lady, and have ended the month with 7!
At your 1 year check-up you weighed 20lbs 8oz with an 18in dia head circumference and a 29" length.
Milena Mattioli
You have gotten a little better at waving this month. You open and close your hand, which is a pretty common "wave" for babies your age. At least there's movement!
Another "word" has entered your vocabulary - "Dadaie." We figure it's close enought to "Daddy" and decide that's what you're saying when we hear it. You like to yell it a lot, which makes sense.
You love love love pushing buttons. So much so we purchased a new entertainment center that hides a few of those buttons, but not enough. You know you are doing something we do not approve of as you look at us, push right next to the button, look at us again, and push the button. Sometimes you look back at us again, sometimes you just ignore us. Oh man, if this is any indication of teenage Milena, I am not looking forward to that!
You've ended the month with still just 2 teeth... but we have a feeling some more will poke through soon!
At your 1 year check-up you weighed 19lbs 4oz with an 18 1/4in dia head circumference and a 29 1/4" length.
It's been an amazing year ladies. We couldn't ask for better children. Seriously. We love you so so much!!
