Who we told first...

You know who the first person I told that I was pregnant to? The lady giving me a facial. Yep, that random lady. I had booked a facial during spa week, which was the week that we found out. I was filling out the form before going in and it asked if I was pregnant.

Well, according to the test I was. But like I said before, I still didn't really feel like I was. But I mean, I guess I had to go to by the test. I can't lie on this form because it might be a big deal. And it turns out it was... well, not a BIG deal, but there are some treatments you can't have done when you're pregnant, which I obviously had no idea about (there's a lot of things I have no idea about.) So the spa lady looked at my form and says, "Oh you're pregnant?"
"Um, yes..."
"Congratulations! How far?"
"Thanks? Um, 4 weeks."

So she was the first person I told... and it was very weird. It made it slightly more real, but I felt like I was telling a lie. The first person Bruno told was his coworker Jessica. I had just accepted an offer for a new job and I panicked... "What about health insurance?! Bruno, we have to check that!" Even though we had decided I would join Bruno's plan (it was way cheaper than mine) we needed to make sure that my pregnancy would still be covered since it was technically a pre-existing condition. So he had to tell his HR department that we were pregnant so we would know for sure that we would be covered. Otherwise, I'd need to figure out how to stay on my current insurance. Luckily, we were good to go, so my panic subsided. Whew!

So as I mentioned, our first appointment was May 6. May 8th just happened to be Mother's Day - yes, I planned the appointment strategically. So for Mother's Day (also Bruno's 30th birthday!), Bruno's mom and my parents were joining us for brunch. We wanted to think of a fun way to tell them... and I think we did pretty well. To tell the new Grandmothers, Bruno had the brillant idea of getting Brasilian Soccer and Virginia Tech Football jerseys, each with the "Grandma" on the back (or "Vovo" in Eliana's case) and the #2. I also made a brag book for each of them. My mom's jersery had to be special ordered, so Eliana was up first to open the gift (we figured the portugese on the back wouldn't give away the surprise)

So while we're waiting for our food to come out, we give the Grandmas their gifts. Eliana opens hers first and immediately tears come to her eyes. Of course Bruno and I know why, but my parents just sat their smiling... little did they know what was coming! So she opens the gift, is all excited, and hugging Bruno. We tell her, "Okay, open your next gift. Mom, you open yours!" Eliana is still is shock and excitement that she can't open the next gift. My mom opens hers and sees, "Grandma Brag Book." Already being a Grandma, since my brother has 3 wonderful children, she's a bit confused. She just looks at me, saying with her eyes, "Why would you give me this." She hasn't yet opened the book to see the sonogram pictures of our babies. I look at her, it's pretty much a staring contest until it registers.

"Oh my God!" she exclaims. And then we both cry. My dad is sitting next to me saying emphatically, "I knew you were going to do this today! I have a gift for you." My dad had "a feeling" that this news was coming, so he brought along my very first Mother's Day gift - a pair of earrings from Ecqador that he got a me a looooong time ago and was saving just for this occassion. How did he know??

So hugs and tears all around, Grandmas and Grandpas alike were estactic, especially when we told them it was not 1, but 2 babies. Pretty much an awesome Mother's Day :)

  1. I told my mom tonight that you were expecting (and twins, no less!) and she said, "Oh, I bet Molly's mom can't hardly wait!" :) Grandma love is great!

Still so excited for you, Mawls!
