Week 25... at 26 Weeks

Ok, maybe this will become the trend. Who knows. But you're getting a post :)

Last week we took our girls (as if they had a choice) to their very first Virginia Tech football game! The night before we left, I was packing my bag, looking for something to wear for the game. I have oodles of VT shirts, but of course none of them fit. I grabbed a very stretchy Old Navy one that Bruno had gotten for me, and despite it being a size small, it fit. Kinda. I mean, it would work. I came out and Bruno asked if I wanted to wear one of his jerseys instead. Well, I knew how that would turn out, but I tried it on anyway. Just as I had suspected, even with my big belly, the shirt was a bit on the large size. The sleeves went down past my elbows and the shirt was really just draped on me. While I'm all about wearing clothes that are loose and comfortable, I also enjoy showing off my bump! How else do you get special treatment unless people can see that you're carrying a child(ren)?? So I packed the Old Navy shirt, with the intention of buying a few maternity shirts while I was down there.

We were able to leave relatively early on Friday afternoon, thanks to my awesome Friday work schedule (8-12) and the holiday weekend. For those that don't know, since my parents purchased/"moved in" to their new home in Fishersville, we drive down there the Fridays on Hokie games and leave for Blacksburg in the morning. It works out perfect that their house is halfway (2 hrs) between here and Blacksburg. Good planning on their part. I think last weekend was the first time we made it down there, while it was still light outside. We even got to eat AT McAlisters (we usually get there so late we have to pick it up and eat it at the house). After we ate, we went over to Target, just to look around. Wouldn't you know I found an inexpensive, very cute orange Hokie shirt to wear for the game. It's not a maternity shirt, but I got a women's large and it fit very well. Score!

Lindsay drove down that night, so the 3 of us were able to leave early for the 12:30 game on Saturday. We bought a tailgate parking pass for the season from the Lions Club. We've parked there in the past, as the lot is directly behind the stadium. It is SO worth it to pay the extra money to be where we are, as opposed to when we used to park in the commuter lot, all the way across campus. Buying the pass ahead of time is more expensive that buying it for each game ($25/game vs $20/game) but the peace of mind, knowing we have our own spot each game, and that we don't have to rush to get there, makes it worth it. We have definitely been spoiled by parking right behind the stadium, so we will continue to do it as long as we can.

Our tailgate was pretty low key, if you can even call it a tailgate. Haha. There's me, drinking my Root Beer and Cherry 7-Up, Bruno drinking Coke Zero, and Linds holding strong with her Sam Adams. So we basically chilled, grilled, and listened to the hoodlums shotgunning beers by us. It's definitely different not playing beer pong, or just drinking beer. Next year, we will be back on track :)

To say getting into the game was chaotic and annoying would be a huge understatement. We walked over to the East Side entrance to meet up with a friend to sell our extra ticket, and the crowd there was unbelieveable. The sun decided to start beating down, just when we were pressed up against a lot of sweating drunk college kids. Awesome. Bruno held our gear whilst I protected my babies. We literally stood in line, not moving, for a minimum of 15 minutes, as we heard Enter Sandman and the opening kickoff cheers. Awesome. I have no idea what the holdup was, but I was very angry about the process. I will say in my mind, I wanted to yell out A)"I'm pregnant, let me through" and B) "My tickets are amazing, so obviously I'm awesome and deserve to be let in now." I know, who thinks like that. I'll blame it on the pregnancy.

We FINALLY get in, and make our way to our seats. Now, our seats are technically Row D, 4th row. But given the layout of the stadium, we find that we are in fact the 2nd row! Holy. Crap. These are our seats for the season?? A-mazing.

So we sit, and get into the game. At some point, our 4th guy joins us (a friend of a friend) and the guys behind us ask us if we sold him that ticket.

"Yep."
"For how much?"
"Um, face value."
"Oh, well I guess you did because he's a Tech fan."
"Um, well, first of all I wouldn't sell a ticket to a non-Tech fan and 2nd, I would never sell it above face value."
"You could make a good profit off these seats. That's what I did."
"I don't buy tickets to make a profit off of them. I hate that."

The guy looked at me like I was crazy. Seriously? It's jerks like you that make it impossible for people to come to the games. I have friends looking at tickets for future games and the asking price is $150/seat. WTF people! These tickets are face value at $48. I hate hate hate that people do this. You do not deserve to get season tickets if you are only selling them for a profit. I hope this comes back to bite you in the ass. Jerks. (Obv. I'm pretty passionate about this) Anyhow, despite these stupid men behind us, the game was great. I felt like we were the team from 1999, running up the score, doing awesome. The past few seasons Beamer has been putting the stop on scoring once we got up by about 24 points, which sometimes didn't end up in our favor. Sure, people may see it as showboating or rubbing it in to keep scoring, but hey, it's the nature of the game. VT always seems to need to prove themselves, so if this is what we have to do, then let's do it. Plus, it's Beamer's 25th season - we deserve to be awesome.

After the game we went to the Tech Bookstore AND the Campus Emporium to look for maternity shirts. Wouldn't you know, they had NONE. Both stores - none. Ok, the Tech Bookstore had 1, and it was ugly. I mean, coem on people. There are A LOT of pregnant Hokies out there who want to show their school spirit. I just don't get it. Last year, I saw a bunch of shirts. Why did this stop? So it was a failed effort. But the weekend was great, and we look forward to a few more weekends down there. Go Hokies!

PS I found a white maternity "Future Hokie" shirt to wear for the White Out game next weekend. Holla.
