Week 26 at 27 Weeks

A few things have happened since my last blog, nothing really exciting, but a bunch of little things I wanted to blog about, but just didn’t. So this may be more of a hodge-podge of random thoughts.

Birthing Class
I signed up for a birthing class offered by my doctors. I wasn’t sure about it, but I figured it was something worth doing. The class is 2 hrs 15 min, and meets once a week for 3 weeks. Our last class is this Wednesday. Although we know we are having c-section, I mean, I’m having a c-section, and this class focuses more on a v-delivery, there’s still a lot of helpful information. In the first class, I learned about dilation and effacement, which I had known the words, but didn’t really understand how they were put into context. Either way, I think the class has been helpful and I’m glad to have signed up for it. The final class will discuss C-Sections, which should be the most helpful. We did speak with the nurse after the first class, just to get some info on twins. She said get as much rest as possible (I’ll try) and Bruno asked what’s full term for twins. The nurse said they’re (the doctors) are happy when twins make it to 36 weeks. 36 weeks. Note, that at the time, I was approaching 26 weeks. Later at home I look at Bruno and say,”36 weeks? That’s only 10 weeks away!”

“Yep, 2 and ½ months.”

Holy crap…

The Things People Say
I don’t necessarily get offended when people say things, it’s more of a “Really?” Here are a few recent ones…

“Are you having a baby tomorrow??”
“No. 3 Months.”
“What, do you have 2 in there?”
“Yep.”
“Oh.”

“Whoa! Must be a running back!”

“When are you due?”
“December.”
“Really? You having twins?”
“Yep.”
“Oh, ok. I was thinking – She’ll never make it to December!”

Like I said, I don’t get offended. It’s just one of those things. It makes sense I suppose. At my last appointment, 2 weeks ago, the doctor said I was measuring a month ahead. So I look like someone who is almost 8 months pregnant, not 7 months. But it’s right where I’m supposed to be.

Weight Gain
This has been something I’ve been worried about off and on, as initially I didn’t think I was gaining enough. For a while I had only gained 5 or so pounds and I was worried my babies weren’t getting enough nutrients to grow. But as the books have said, the most growth has come during the 2nd trimester. All of the sudden, I’ve gained almost 30 pounds! I don’t know how, and honestly, I don’t really feel like I have. But I have. Ok, that’s a lie – I felt like I had a few days ago. I put on some scrub pants that had always been a little big on me. But not anymore… I knew my stomach had been getting bigger – obviously. But the pants were tight on my bum… ugh… but that’s what maternity pants are for, right?

Post-Pregnancy
Bruno recently asked me if I’ll miss my bump after I have the girls. Truth is, probably. I mean, it is super cool to feel them moving around in there. And being pregnant takes up almost a year of your life so to go back to the not pregnant Molly will be different. It will take some time to adjust to. What I’m most looking forward to? Sleeping on my stomach! This whole sleeping on my side thing is tough, and I’m still not a fan. It makes my hips ache and it’s hard to flip from side to side with any sort of “speed.” A close 2nd? Drinking beer. Sure, I know I can have a beer or so every once in a while, but I figure that I’ve made it this far, so I might as well just hold off. I don’t want any NA beers – I want the good beers that I miss – Smithwicks, Octoberfest, Blue Moon, Yeungling Premium… I’m so very excited! And yes, I know that Octoberfest will be done by the time I can drink again. But I do have some Premium in the kitchen, waiting patiently for me.

  1. I've never understood why people think that it's okay to comment on a woman's weight just because she's pregnant. A few of my co-workers do this and I'm just like, "Really? Did you just call someone MONSTROUS?" Ugh. I think you look fabulous, Mawls. Healthy, happy, and glowing. You're going to be an awesome mom to those 2 lovely girls. -belle
